As the chief editor of PropertyReviews.my I thought I’d offer myself the welcome blog posting, and so I’d like to welcome you here at PropertyReviews.my’s International Control Center (OK, our dingy little office) in sunny Puchong, Selangor. 🙂
Just moments ago our rag-tag team of hackers and engineers plugged in the beta version of PropertyReviews.my, bringing it to life online.
A lot of my friends (and the people I know in the real estate industry) have asked about the Malaysian Real Estate Search white paper which we released a couple of months back (which now forms the bulk of this site’s content). Where did that come from? Why did I write it?
Well, to give you a back story, it was during one discussion that I had when I was an intern at a boutique property agency in Damansara that this idea was first conceived.
When Malaysians are on a lookout for property to buy or rent, they’d usually go to Google1. Many of the search results that they get are classified listings at sites such as Property Guru and iProperty. There’s also some editorial content which could be found at Propwall which are interesting and informative.
While property sites are good at presenting choices of available properties to consumers, but many consumers are in the “research” phase, and they need sufficient information to help them make the right choices.
And So It All Began…
PropertyReviews.my began about a month ago with this goal in mind – to give everyday Malaysian folks more tools and data so that they can manage the (often frustrating and sometimes scary and almost always exciting) process of buying, selling or renting a home.
As such, we don’t have classifieds here (although we do aggregate some links to external listings) because we’d rather focus on the information and tools to help our readers research and make the right decision.
What You Can Expect From Us
In a true “review site” spirit, we wanted to give a fair view of Malaysian properties (and the industry in general) and not to promote any particular property or real estate agency.
In each of the reviews you will be able to gather salient information about the property in question:-
- Configuration (sizes, types)
- Freehold or leasehold status
- Nearby amenities
- Developer information + track record
- Asking & transacted prices
- Occupancy rates (for apartments)
- Other salient information
We will also append the reviews from time to time with new data and information. Some data is best when “fresh“, for example, the asking and transacted prices. The blog comments section is also enabled for interaction with and between readers.
How We Make Money
Full disclosure: we will make money through placing advertisements and sending clicks to partner sites. We will draw a clear line between editorials and advertisements, and will never let advertising dictate our content.
This site exists not for altruistic reasons, but building it has been really fun that it does transcend monetary objectives. We really love Malaysia real estate! 🙂
If any civilization is to survive, it is the morality of altruism that men have to reject. – Ayn Rand
Lastly, We hope PropertyReviews.my will make it easier for you to make better decisions about buying, selling or renting properties in Malaysia.
There’s more to come, so watch this space!
